BIOGRAPHY

Since his childhood growing up near the Atlantic Ocean in Cameroon, Nicolas Remy has always been attracted by the water. By the time he started diving, he had already read two full books on underwater photography, and couldn’t wait to take a camera with him.

Fast forward a few years, Nicolas has left his corporate career to dedicate himself to underwater image-making and teaching. He is an ambassador for Mares and Nauticam and his photographs have received over 40 international awards. These include category winners in the prestigious Ocean Photography Awards, Ocean Art, DPG Masters, Ocean Geographic Pictures of The Year and the World Nature Photography Awards.

An accomplished photo-journalist, Nicolas has authored dozens of articles published in international dive media. He is a Field Editor for DivePhotoGuide.com, and a regular contributor of Plongez! Magazine (France) and Scuba Diver Magazine (UK and Australia/New Zealand), where he writes about marine life, travel, photographic technique and equipment. Nicolas collaborates with diving equipment and photography brands for product testing and field-reviews, leveraging his product management background and technical expertise.

Nicolas is the founder of The Underwater Club, an online photography school and community, counting members in 12 countries. Club Members have access to self-paced courses, support forums and monthly webinars where Nicolas and other renowned photographers teach photography masterclasses. Besides The Underwater Club, Nicolas is regularly invited to speak in dive shows, underwater photography societies and scuba clubs.

Rebreathers are at the center of Nicolas’ diving equipment: he has been diving with either a rEvo CCR or Mares Horizon SCR for the last 13 years, staying down for 3 to 4 hour-long dives, and getting closer to marine life. He is passionate about these machines, which he sees taking a growing space in the diving industry. Other key parts of his dive gear include the X-Vision Ultra Liquidskin, Avanti Quattro+ fins and the Titanium/Ceramic line cutter, which he mostly uses to free entangled marine life.
